Elmo History And Facts

Writen by Gail Leino

Elmo has been a fun character on Sesame Street for many years with his friends, the cookie monster, Big Bird, the Grouch, and even Bert and Ernie. A red furry Muppet he is probably about the age of a child in preschool. Elmo's got googly eyes and a vibrant orange nose. Elmo has grown in popularity since he was first introduced on Sesame Street and now hosts the last segment on the children's show called Elmo's World. You may remember the famous Tickle Me Elmo doll that came out a few years ago. It was the hottest toy of the Christmas season at the time and flew on the shelves in stores because so many parents bought it for their kids.

The Elmo's World segment is created for toddlers and features Elmo in his room which is a white space filled with crayon drawings on his furniture. Elmo's world also contains his pet Goldfish, which is a real goldfish, and silent characters including Mr. Noodle, and Mr. Noodle's Brother Mr. Noodle. In Elmo's world, Elmo feels very safe and is able to express himself creatively with his crayons. Parents will often notice that Elmo will refer to himself in the third person. His simple sentences are helpful to children in learning basic grammar and language. Elmo's parents are named Gladys and George but they are rarely if ever seen on the show. He also has grandparents and he has a sister.

Other Elmo dolls have been released including, Hokey Pokey Elmo, Limbo Elmo and Let's Pretend Elmo, the newest Elmo toy to be released will be the Extreme Elmo, expected to be a big hit this winter.

Elmo has been on many television specials besides spending time on Sesame Street he has been on Martha Stewart, starred with Emril in a cooking show, and actually testified before congress to urge support of music education and other shows.

Army Pay 1976west Germany A Poem

Writen by Dennis Siluk

he is in pain. I can hardly stand it.
I know I have to do it. I called in a
medical helicopter. he won't budge.
he hands the corporal his rifle. if
I fail he dies.

I know what he did. I can't tell him
I know. he aimed. he couldn't, but
he did. he tried again. he pulled the
trigger and moved. a sharp left. he
missed. he fired one shot. into his
mouth.

there are bones, teeth, flesh scattered.
soft wit flesh dripping from his face.
long chunks hanging. oozing pink
and reddish tissue hangs. he missed.
he tried to kill himself.

the corporal is really shook, holding
his hand. if he looks in the mirror he'd
go historical. some tears by his eyes.
this will be the fullest one minute he
will have ever known. he wants to go
home.

they walk him to the helicopter. twenty
years old. he loses his grip, a private
grabs hold of him. he was almost dead.
nothing more to be said. fate will handle
it. army pay tomorrow.

Note: The author spent eleven years in the Army [l969-l980], seeing many things; this situation being just one (he is a Vietnam Veteran also). Says the author, "Soldiers get under pressure and try to harm themselves to get out of the army, shoot themselves in the stomach, or foot, etc; and sometimes miss. Especially when they are under constant pressure; in this case, it was at a nuclear site in West Germany, in l976, and I was the Sergeant in Charge of the compound during the evening hours of that night; and thus, the suicide (so assumed) did not go as planned for the sufferer."

Opportunities In Crm Market

Writen by Sanjay Kumar K. Mota

Earlier when Organizations large IT projects concentrated on Main Frames, ERP, MRP and SCM systems, a new concept of "Front Office applications" changed focus to Customers resulting in emergence of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications. CRM helped Organizations in improving efficiency and better services to Customers. CRM was the mantra for surviving in the competitive market by focusing on Customer needs. To help achieve this, there were many CRM solutions that came out in Market. Such solutions included generic CRM solutions focused on sales and services to Industry specific solutions that embedded the best practices for those industries. Such solutions helped Software developers and Software vendors in generating large revenues in terms of Sales and Implementation of such applications.

Now most of the large Organizations have opted, implemented and more or less stabilized one or another application with its core and customized CRM functionality. This article explores further opportunities that are available in CRM Market.

Enterprise Application Integration (EAI): Once a CRM solution is implemented, The Organization needs to focus on integrating it with other applications. There are diverse applications and technologies used in an Organization that need to interact with each other. Integrating such applications will help in sharing business critical data and help improve in better business efficiency by reducing the time that is required to spend on gathering and sharing such information. This brings out the opportunity of Application to Application (A2A) and Business to Business (B2B) integration using EAI strategies like Point to Point, Hub and Spoke and Distributed Messaging.

Upgrade: There are many large Organizations who have heavily customized CRM solutions which they have continued using for years. There are new / latest versions of such applications available. As of now there are many CRM solution providers who are supporting old versions of their application, but how long is a Question. Once those Organizations decide to upgrade or move to later / latest versions of the application, this will open up new market.

Small and Medium Enterprise (SME): Although CRM solutions have been implemented by most of the large Organizations, SME segment is still vastly open and lot of potential to be capitalized.

Hosted Solutions: There are many small Organizations who neither have capacity nor infrastructure to buy and implement CRM solution. Such small Organizations will prefer to opt for hosted solutions and pay based on the usage.

Redesign the wheel instead of Reinventing it – New Technology Architecture Changes like Service Oriented Architecture is requiring redesigning of the CRM solution architecture. This has opened up new market for Software Vendors and System Integrators.

Cut And Run ~ 4

Writen by Deborah Coss

The next day, she called into her work, early in the morning, and told them that she would not be in for work today. She had something to do. Together, the girls took off for the Free Clinic on San Vincente. Debbie was stiff and sore, but could still crack jokes, as long as they did not talk about the night before. It was hot outside, so hot. And the air was thick with exhaust, and smog, and summer heat, and smells. The sun was reflected off of every piece of shiny chrome on cars, trim on the buildings, the frames around the super big sunglass lenses, under the rims of floppy hats, and in the shininess of their young eyes. Together, they hitched rides towards the Free Clinic.

Debbie filled out the forms, with fake names, fake address, fake everything. They could tell you, till they were blue in the face, you were safe here, but were they? It was better to lie, than to be scared you had told someone who you really are, and where you stay. She waited in the dingy waiting room of the clinic for her friend. They always tried to make the clinics look welcoming and comfortable, with posters and lots of handouts about all the help you could find. But they were always in low rent areas, so they looked a little dingy and run down.

She had a hard time sitting still. She always had. No one talked much about hyperactive kids back then. People were not into "intervention" much in the 60's and she never got much in the way of medical care anyway, unless it was a crisis. She just got told to sit still a lot. And she always found that so freaking hard to do.

She had some money in her pocket from her meager tips at Soul Taco, so she bought them both a Coke from the soda machine in the hallway, looked at all the magazines, and looked at the young men and women who came and went. Finally Debbie came from the private rooms and was smiling. They just ran some tests, gave her some antibiotics they had on hand, and told her she had to check back every few months, for at least 12 months, to make sure she had not "caught anything." And that was it. No rape counseling, no support groups, no ongoing care, no police reports; nothing. But they would not have it any other way. The two of them were not dependable enough, not even for themselves, to get and use support. And NO COPS! They were not going to get sent back home, because of someone else's freaking crime! Oh, hell no!

They were back on the streets again. She told her friend to be cool, and look like they had business to take care of, because school was still in session and if they looked like they were just screwing around for the fun of it, truant officers would nail them. So they set about going back towards the commune, their home of the day. She thinks how funny, her homes were like the soup-de-jour back then. They could, and did, change in the blink of an eye. Her true address, had she known then what she knows now, should have simply been on the corner of Erratic and Chaos, in the city of Take A Chance, Anywhere, USA.

On their way home, they stopped and talked to some people smoking some herb, and they said there was a small "love-in," happening at the carousel, in Griffith Park. So they started hitching for a ride that way. They knew they would be safe in a crowd of hundreds of other people, who looked just like them.

Soon, they were in a huge crowd of people, people all around them, in bell bottom jeans, tops made of bandanas or tie-dyed cloth; You could smell patchouli oil in the air. And the sound of rock music calling to them, calling them to the crowd that was swaying to the beat. Painted faces, embroidered clothing, flowers everwhere! Flower Power. Grooving, and swinging and playing to the music. It was one of those rare times, when she played like a child, and felt like a child, and did not feel foolish for it. It was walking distance from the house on the corner of Franklin and Taft, so they felt safe going there. There were lots of bottles of Red Mountain wine, or Boones Farm berry flavored wine, making the rounds. But the girls passed on that because they didn't know if they had been spiked with acid or not, and they planned on walking home. After last night, Debbie was not too anxious to trip that day. She was worried it would be a bummer if she did. So they just walked around together and smelled the herb burning in the air, and looked at all the beautiful people. And they could hear some one singing Scott McKenzie's song, some where in the park…

"If you're goin' to San Francisco Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you're goin' to San Francisco You're gonna meet some gentle people there
For those who come to San Francisco Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco Gentle people with flowers in their hair
All across the nation Such a strange vibration
People in motion There's a whole generation
With a new explanation People in motion, people in motion
For those who come to San Francisco Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you come to San Francisco Summertime will be a love-in there"

They talked of hitching up north, to "San Fran," for the fun of it, just to check it out. But they never made it. When they were done hanging out at the park and just as the sun started to set, they walked back to the corner of Selma and Vine, to her job, to check in and tell her bosses that she would be back to work tomorrow. The owners were not real happy to see her. They paid her what they owed her and told her, "Don't come back here any more!" There had been some cops there that day, showing her picture to them, telling them that she was a run-away and her parents wanted her back home. Of course, they would have to arrest her first. The owners were pretty upset she had brought the heat to their business, but then everyone was also very grateful that she had not been at work, that one day, of the many weeks she had worked there. They said, "No hard feelings, just go."

What a drag! Now what? Where was she gonna get another job? Especially one so cool? Jeez. But they soon forgot her troubles because some really nice guys asked them up to their hotel room further up the street, on Selma…

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Magic

Writen by Marcus Peterson

Science has the uncanny knack of killing belief, but however hard scientists have tried, they could never lift the veil from the supernatural. Humans are perhaps doomed to be perplexed by the mysterious forces of nature till their dying day.

"Magic" has received much bad press over the years and even though most recognize the word, they are far from understanding the concept. The point is, the word has been used to describe so many things that it is impossible to accurately say what it really means. In the basest definition, magic is an occurrence, the cause for which cannot be directly determined. Thus, pulling rabbits out of hats, conjuring mists and disappearing behind them as well as winning the Olympic gold can be magic. All these things seem impossible and magical to viewers simply because they are not scrutinized to ascertain cause. This is not to say that all things that people call magic are simply the outcome of the lack of keen examination. These are things even the greatest minds cannot explain that would amply qualify to fall under the category of magic.

Perhaps the most infamous connection people draw with magic is the image of the witch. In the medieval ages, thousands died because they were convicted of witchcraft and soliciting with the devil. The main reason for the hysteria was the allegation that the "witches" used magic to bend people's wills, injure children and animals and send up on houses the wrath of sickness. However, there is not a shred of historical evidence that any of these acts were actually committed or that the accused were even capable of performing such deeds. In recent years, the practice of magic (or magick) through white witchcraft or Wicca has been gaining popularity. These practices have no association with the historical witch and tend to be a form of nature worship rather than anything evil.

The jury is still out on the authenticity of magic, but for an individual the question remains one of faith.

A Prayer For Hell Chaper 9 Quothades Riverquot

Writen by Dennis Siluk

9. Hades River

She was not happy, and longed for her father, the father she knew, and she longed for her Old Folks Home she had not thought she'd grieve it, put I guess in Hell you do grieve, had it been in heaven or its equal, possible the grieving would not had taken place other than wanting to insure all was well with a loved one left behind, but she left no such things, people behind, all she had was a wheelchair, and a memory of her father;

as they'd call it even though she was but thirty-nine years old when he had died, died from a neurological disease; to here the home was a convalescent home of sorts. She had never married, and had no siblings, and so very often had no one but her surrounding environment to appease her: she longed to be by the gate now it was surprisingly a relief to return to it. She now realized in the past she vehemently abused people, making all them bitter within her life, other than her father. But that didn't put her in Hell she knew, it was her attitude, her prayer you could call it. She could only construe, she was the fool; she even came to an understating, that if a woman wants to make a fool out of herself it is best to let her do so, least you get entangled into her web for the spider to eat you—and so in the long run that is exactly what people did to her, allowed her to decay into her own—onto her own intrinsic island. Blind she was, blind and wanting to go home—but death was her home: as death must come to each and everyone, it came to her, in the city of death, the Gateway City: it is not death that hurts, but constantly dying.

The city's Tall Man, it was better to be exiled here than within the masses of the horde, she thought, for outside the Gateway-City, save for the fact she could not fall to sleep and never wake up, she died hour after hour, not even knowing it was a day to an hour: barer it could be worse she told herself, for beyond that was the fires, the everlasting fires, and somewhere around that the frozen chambers for the many kings that abused the masses with their powers and wills for grandness beyond the gift given them by God.

But then there were many things she didn't know about this underground city, this core in the earth, this ugly supernatural, spiritual world of a cave of sorts, island in the earth, whatever, wherever she was, it was a hell; here they were all barbarians.

—She now looked up where her father was before, looking at the same back her father had before he turned to her with that smirk; she stared and stared and stared, and finally he turned: it wasn't her father at all, it was whoever it was—the other person. She now put two and two together: matter of fact the two men [Buer and Gusoyn] were the ones who had spit and fooled her, Buer being the one who changed his face and spit at her, changed shapes to fool her; but why? 'Sure, to sell my place her,' she finished. And Buer, who had looked like her father, she discovered now looked different so very different, again she did not look, think she did as she had always done took the man view at face value, the Tall Man. He had what was called shape-shifted, things demons do, were designed to do, can do to fool a person—but she didn't learn about demons, didn't believe in them: before. Again her face turned morbid pale with horror.

"Of course," she whispered to herself again, "of course, the tall man was by nature a liar, like the two demons's overlooking the stone walls; that she referred to being the second guard, Buer [who had done the shape changing to fool her, for it was the nature of the demons to ensnare and seduce the enemy, mankind; and Hell didn't change a persons nature, it just brought it out more]. Now she realized Buer was rather stout and short and silent, now that she looked closer [Gusoyn being the polar opposite]; his hair balled in the back with a thick red neck, gray eyes, and an odd looking mouth, he spoke not a word, fat as a cow. But another observation she had was that demons seem to have eyes and mouths that were grotesque, alarming, all of them.

—As Ms Rice walked about, everything seemed so easy now, no fuss, no one seemed to bother her, any policeman, or authority; everything calm seemed to run by itself within her spirit body: no supervisor class, and no boss. If anything, that's were it was for the moment. The river to the left of her made up a trillion drops of soot-covered water. She now stood by the gate, the solid stone walls that lead to the gates, in her undisputable spot; listening to the grumbling of the guards on the ledge above. Thought Ms Rice, standing there absorbing everything: a person needs to know what they are up against; otherwise that person is just a wash-out. She was a bit prideful at the moment, prideful that she had figured out the game a little better, with a little help she admitted, her fate, and made it back to the 'Gateway City,' not much pride, but better than what she had before.

Tickets Where To Get Them

Writen by Michael Russell

In this second article about purchasing tickets for events, we're going to focus on just where you can buy these tickets from.

Good question. Where DO you get tickets for a Mets game or a night out at a Broadway show?

Well, the first place you can get your tickets is at the location itself. All major league sports teams have box office locations where you can physically drive down there and tell the poor guy or gal in the window exactly what you're looking for. You can haggle with him in real time about seating location, prices and the weather if you like. Depending on the time of year and the event you may or may not have to stand in a long line. Some of those lines for very big tickets can start the evening before. Many a person has parked his carcass out on the street for 16 hours just to get a seat for the World Series.

Another place you can get your tickets is literally out on the streets. For those impossible to get tickets there are always the scalpers. It seems they've got tickets for just about everything. Of course if you're going to spring for one of these bad boys be prepared to spend up to $1,000 or more for a $100 ticket. Scalpers are not called that because they're good to their mothers. Sometimes though if you really want to get a hard to find ticket this is your only option.

But the most popular option today is online ticket buying. The first one of these was Ticketron. Actually, Ticketron was formed in 1965 long before the commercial Internet we know today. Ticketron outlets are found in banks, supermarkets, department stores and other outlets all across the United States. By August of 1969 they were selling tickets for musical events, baseball games and many events at Madison Square Garden in New York. Eventually Ticketron moved to the Internet as well.

But they aren't the only online ticket purchasing place. Many other online sources have popped up over the years, all under the direction and control of the National Association Of Ticket Brokers, which was formed in 1994 by a group of concerned ticket brokers who wanted to create rules and procedures to protect the buying public.

The primary goal of the NATB is to represent the interests of legal ticket brokers by educating the public about the industry itself. This is done by assuring the public that by dealing with an NATB broker, who carries with them their official seal, they are dealing with a trusted source for purchasing tickets and have nothing to fear when making their purchase.

The NATB is a self governing agency but they do also work with law enforcement to make sure that only non counterfeit tickets are sold to the public.

Since it's creation there have been a number of ticket brokers that have emerged online including Ticketmaster, Bestseats.com, Cheaptickets.com, Ticketliquidator.com and others.

The basic procedure for purchasing tickets from these places is about the same. You go to the site, pick the event you want tickets for, they then show you a seating layout of the establishment, you pick the section you want and they show you what's available. If you like the seats you throw them in your shopping cart, pay for them and you're done.

Ticket buying has never been easier. That's of course providing you're not trying to see the NY Jets in their first Super Bowl since 1969. For that you may have to wait in line for a year.

The Cephalopoda Queen Of The Arctic

Writen by Dennis Siluk

Advance: before we get into this short story, it might be of interest to the reader, I know it was for me, that the Polar Ice Cap, at the North Pole has not been explored for the most part, due to the Cold War, which of course ended more than a decade ago, nonetheless, it remains, by and large, uncultivated. Now having said that let me say: biodiversity of species were always known to decline in numbers when going into colder areas, which to the scientist seemed reasonable. But again, I need to say, humanoids have not researched this area a great deal, in fear of conflict with other nations, thus comes into view this story.

I was in the Arctic in l996, Barrow, Alaska when the hotel, front desk clerk, told me fragments of a story - her husband would tell me the rest. Her husband was a pilot for an oil company up there, and they actually brought me back some sea shells one afternoon, having told Jackie the night before: I wondered how they'd look, meaning, were they the same in the Arctic as in the lower parts of the world, or the lower forty-eight, as they say up in Alaska. It was amazing to see the diversity of these shells. But let me not stray off the premise too much of this short and peculiar story - yet diversity is a key word.

The Story

As I was about to say, I was introduced to a creature beyond my imagination, I call it [for lack of a better name other than squid or octopus], "The Arctic Cephalopoda Queen."

Jackie, being a Oceanographer - when not a clerk at the hotel, and her husband being a Zoologist [Henry] - in his spare time, also a pilot, and myself being a Licensed Counselor, and part time Tourist Archeologist, I became quite interested in what they had to say and show. But before I go too far, let me add: they had been working on an archeological site, some three-hundred miles from Barrow, finding skulls, and bones of the tribal people of that area for sometime. I got to look at the pictures of some of these artifacts by one of the diggers, but they would not let me go to the site in fear I might open it up to other tourists. That was a while ago: and the newspapers confirmed they did find the site, and so this story they told me, gave mine more credence, which I'm going to tell you.

As far fetched as this may sound, I will try with heart and soul to tell it as it came to me: one night while sitting at the Top of the World Hotel.

Incidentally, the North Slope paper, published one of my articles, of which the find of the skull and bones were in; they did put them all back—, back in place where they found them, buried them as they had been found, and laid for thousands of years.

So here is how they explained the happening, or origin of the creature to me, and its description. Now I do not know that much about astrology, or the planet system, I only know what I've saw through my telescopes and read in my books, and yes, I've done a little hands on research, but not much: said Henry to me, with a cautious voice, as if he should or shouldn't show me the picture, and then tell me the story, yet he did pull out the picture, and started with the story (putting the picture back in his pocket, for same keeping, I'm sure:

"It came from Saturn's outermost moon, that being Phoebe, when it collided, prior to its being captured by Saturn's pull - eons ago. In the process, before Phoebe entered Saturn's orbit, fragments with no gravity, broke off within the solar system, Phoebe being at the far end of the system, some of these fragments landed on earth. Henceforward, particles of this matter ended up in the frozen waters of the Arctic, the Ice Cap. During this catastrophe, it has been said [so he explains to me], still other parts that originally landed on the largest moon of Saturn [Titan, which harbors an atmosphere], first gave life to these organisms that were cast off the racing meteorite that formed out of Phoebe."

Again, I want to repeat myself [he said: he being Henry talking to me]: Titan gave, triggered something in these organisms to give it real active life; and when these other elements were cast off Titan they ended on Earth, allowing the new formed creatures to grow in this arctic isolated habitat, that has just been discovered recently: after millions of years. It kind of sounded like, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon."

Now this all made quite an interesting story to me, but I thought it simply easier to say,

"Maybe you discovered a new species that has always been here on earth, in the deep waters of the Arctic, why not, it makes life easier (at least for me)."

But he insisted it happened in some mysterious way as I have just told you - take or give a few misunderstandings I'm sure: nonetheless, it all came about in a similar manner. Now let me describe it to you as I saw the picture.

Description:

it seemed to have a height of about two feet, tentacles (making it between seven to ten inches taller); I call it, its hair, in lack of a better portrayal. Anyhow, its hair like tentacles was attached to the top of its head, you couldn't see it clearly, but if you looked closer to the picture they had fallen backwards to rest on the creatures back, and thus, you could see them slightly in the dark shadows by its skinny neck.

It had two huge dark irises,—the eyes filled up thirty-five percent of its frontal-face, of which it had a very small mouth (or perchance, none at all, for what I thought was a mouth could very well be a wrinkle in the skin); it also had a small forehead that leaped kinda into a sloping back: baldness all the way; but it had a long string like nose, with a tip to it. The torso was like a fat, half hot-dog, inside this hot-dog like shell were wobbly cell like membranes, large cells for the most part, they looked as if they had drifted into one another; as its bottom section shaped into a cone type feature; between these two sections, was a tunic like apron - possible better put, like a see-through blouse, or jellyfish, it was equal to a short dress.

The Zoologist said they lived in the deepest and coldest waters of the Arctic, under the Ice Cap. They were armless, and looked harmless. And again I have paraphrased my forgotten friend, for I have not kept pace with his whereabouts, or his wife's, other than one letter after I left Barrow, Alaska, telling her of my article in the Arctic paper, which I guess they had already seen; for I got a postcard the following Christmas, and I never did send one back.

Reproduction:

but let me go on: I was told they did not have to have a male to reproduce, that they gave birth the female species reproduce on their own, until it reached the age of twenty or more years. And so at this juncture, I asked the question, just (like a man would I suppose):

"What good did the man for this species (if any)," thinking everyone has to have a function. He said the male creature did have a function, not for reproduction, although before the female had children, the male did do some kind of ritual, I call it dancing from side to side (as he tried to explain, perhaps to calm the reproduction process down in the female, or for some emotional comfort); and then he added: they normally would stare in each other's faces, not even touching; thus, stimulating, but not to the point of the male having an erection or ejaculating, or even if he did, it was not used for reproduction; what a squander I thought [with all respect intended I say that].

And so at this point, I was really curious on knowing more about this creature, and asked to go on his next venture: he had said he would take me, but it would cost, just to tag along, and no pictures, for he wanted to keep the only ones, perhaps sell them to National Geographic some day, was my best guest; the greedy hog (I should take back incase he is reading this). The cost back then was $10,000, which is about $20,000 I suppose in today's money value: and that only paid for seeing one close up, he'd find one, bring it to me, and allow it to be returned to its habitat.

Wishful Thinking

I had just gotten into real-estate, and had some extra money, and thus, I wanted to pay the money, but I knew I couldn't afford it, not really; it was a once in a like time thing.

Again he said,

"I got sick one day, very, very sick - you see Dennis [he says to me], the male is sharply lowered (in evolution I expect he meant) to protect the female, and its potential predators: for the female has no way of combating an enemy (this was a joke to me, I mean, if she could only have sex, she'd not need any combat bodyguard to protect her, how silly I thought: but I didn't' say that, lest he shove me in a hole in the ice when I wasn't looking).

So what happens is this - and I witnessed it come about (he continues to explain to me), when an adversary approaches, and the male notices him getting within an uncomfortable zone for him and his mate, it releases a toxic chemical (which only the male can discharge): it was in this case as powerful as hemlock you might say, if not stronger: a strong poison; so strong I was sick for a week, and I was far beyond what I would call their comfort zone, but the ugly looking predator died within minutes, its body no longer could withstand the environment. Thus, the secret is in finding the female alone."

Incidentally, he said the water around that area where the two creatures lived, was polluted for several hours. Nothing, not a thing could go in that area without suffering biological or genetic damage. My guess was these were undisturbed waters for eons, and therefore, the chemicals and its residue, just resided in and around that domain.

And so this was my story, I cannot prove it, nor shall I try, but as people go searching within these waters they will find out these new species that disturb our imagination, are attractively real, for the most part.

The Arctic Cephalopoda Queen [Part Two]

The Sitting

I wasn't really going to tell this part of the story, its been a long time since it took place, and I told my friends it would remain closed, but sense they have open up that area for exploration recently, they will discover the Cephalopoda Queen sooner or later, so you might just as well hear it form me. In my last part, of the story, about the Arctic Cephalopoda Queen, I didn't explain everything as I should have: yes, I know, I kind of mislead you, the reader so you couldn't put the whole story together. Not an outright lie, but just what I'd call a distortion: no, not a distortion, a deletion, that sounds better.

Having said that, I will try to put together a little more of this (that is, fill in that hole, put back that deletion I took out, if I can) - not sure what to call it, finding, a discovery: actually they may have found what I'm talking about anyway and named it something else, and I think I got something new, when in essence, it is just old news.

Let me try to explain: on the surface of the ice in the Arctic, you have pools of water, or kind of shallow ponds: water on ice. If you go out in certain areas, you will have openings, and whales will be sailing around like little boats, and the Inuit's, will use their small boats, and long spears, usually three in a boat, and go whale hunting this way.

Thus, they are allowed a certain amount of whales they can kill: allowed I say, by the United States Government, annually. When I was up there, the Captain [of whom I called prior to my arrival] said he'd take me out on a whale hunt, but I couldn't kill a whale, only watch. Jackie's boyfriend, he was not really her husband, that is where some of the distortion comes in, was on hand also during this time, flew out on the ice, and so I got there before the group of hunters, and was quite excited. He had showed me the picture the night before, the picture of the Cephalopoda Queen. I really did want to go hunting with the Inuit's, this is very true, and they were carting their boats out onto the ice and out to the holes within the ice by way of—believe this or not—by snowmobile, and when they don't run anymore, they leave them on the ice to sink in mid-June.

Well, we got to the opening, and it was what I'd consider quite big, three whales were in this area, possible as big as a small lake, I'd say, one mile or so circumference. Henry was going to see if he could spot one of these creatures and he told me about, and the Captain had originally had told him about this, during a drunken spell. Let me clarify this, somewhat: in l996, this area of Alaska was dry, no alcohol was allowed, and actually they wanted me to work there some several months later, and had called me to do so - the reason being, I wanted to remain there after I saw what I saw, and put in an application to work as a General Manager for their outpatient and inpatient Chemically Dependent clinic. I never did because I went to work for Hawthorn Institute, as General Manager. But the job was offered me, to my recollection.

But let's get back to the other issue, Henry. Now he had been out to the pole several times he had said, but for only short periods of time. And that the picture he had was from that area, but he had seen - not captured, but seen the queen at times out in this area where we were, the reason being, the waters were disturbed not only by the whales, but would soon be by the hunters, and he said, if we could get there before the hunters, our likelihood of seeing one, increased; so I took my binoculars just in case.

Now I had not drawn the picture of the creature yet, I had an idea of it from the camera shot he had shown me, but it wasn't clear and I had to do some guessing on how its bottom section looked.

So when we landed we left the plane running, allowing the humming of the motor to continue to not alarm the creature or the whales, the humming seemed to also drawn out our voices, which was good. We were about a hundred miles west of Barrow on the ice now, we spotted some polar bears, but I had seen them before, when they get running they run like gofers, faster than cockroach, I doubt any man could out run them.

Usually they blend in so well with the snow, but I was looking for the creature, and spotted one, I think he got the scent of something, and so I followed his maneuvering. And yup, he was running to the opening in the ice, I thought possibly it was a seal or something of that nature at first, surely not a whale.

The bear got nearer the edge of the ice, fearful it would break off he laid down - and covered himself up a bit with snow, there were like frozen waves of ice all about, and he broke some of them off to hide his smell, I think that is what he was doing; we walked around to his side a little more, but we didn't want to disturb the moment, we wanted to see what he discovered. And sure enough, something poked its head out of the water. I was frantic, and wanted to run to see, but Henry calmed me down, grabbed my forearm. He was also carrying a rifle just in case of an emergency. The bear stayed hidden, then like a hawk grabbing a prior dog, the bear snatched its, by putting its hand in the ice and pulling the creature towards him, that is when I started to run towards the creature, and that is when Henry shot in the air, and everything went from quiet to chaos. The bear dropped the creature, the whales dived deep into the water, the bear ran, and there I was standing by the Cephalopoda Queen. I didn't touch her, just stood over her, and she was as if dead, but wasn't dead. That is when I got the full shot of the creature; more than a glimpse, but a close up view.

What do you do in a situation like that I told myself, it was harmless, and looked so innocent, and I had in my mist something unbelievable. It was about four feet from the edge of the water. I'm not sure if I seen a smile on it or not, as I said before, I drew the picture as I seen it (this was the time I'd refer to later on as the great moment, when I told everyone I saw the creature ((drew the picture of the creator thereafter)), but that was to be sometime in the future yet, now I just had the creature in my eye sight, stone-still, during the following seconds my heart beat crazy).

I had for years, lost it, the picture I drew, and drew another one from memory. In any case, I picked it up (thank god it was a female, not the males according to Henry, it could emit some toxic chemical and had killed me, but I couldn't tell one from the other anyhow, and I placed it in the water. It fell over to its side; I think it was in a daze. It laid dormant for a few minutes, I was about to pull it back out of the water, thinking it was dead, and what the heck, I now could morally take it: but it woke up, kind of moved about getting it balance, and I saw its tentacles moving and its apron type fins and it leaned forward, and sank into the cold waters.

The Arctic Cephalopoda Queen [Part Three]

The Kraken-Bishop Fish

It has been said everything on land has its ocean [sea] counter part i.e., star-fish, and sun-fish; also cat-fish, and dog-fish; how about sea lions, and sea elephants, and sea horses, and sea cows, etcetera. I think I have made my point, although you do not know my point yet. We have mermaids and mermen, or hippocampus', and we have "Bishops;" now we're getting closer to my point.

This sea creature, the Bishops, have been known to wear a miter on its head, and vestments on its shoulders, body covered with scales. I seen a drawing of one, it looked similar to the creature I had seen the one I called the Arctic Cephalopoda Queen, except for a few missing details. But let me go on with this, a little deeper: one of these creatures was caught in the 16th century, and given to the King of Poland as a gift, but in some gesture way, it pleaded to the clergy, and he allowed it to be freed back into he sea, a mammal I presume. On the other hand I have read that it this sea creature that has been mistaken for a walrus. My point, I will stick with the first description, it fits my agenda.

The Bishop fish is a descendant of the mermen of ancient Mesopotamia; and point of fact is, all these myths we call myths are finding its way to the surface, out around the world, and its surface is a bone of contention, dealing with reality, the issue of myth vs. reality; and there is more to it than myth. If I'd add on to this Bishop fish a few things, one being the Kraken tentacles on its head, not all that long though, it very well could resemble the creature I saw.

Introducing The Mighty Pencil A Most Convenient Drawing Instrument

Writen by Jeff Rosales

Sketching in pencil is very popular amongst artists. Why? There are several reasons.

First, this seems to be partly because of the materials' low cost and the fact that they are easy to carry from place to place.

Next, most of us know how to handle a pencil. We use it from a very early age and learn to write with it... and sometimes... even to draw with it. We are familiar with it.

But the most significant feature that pencils have to offer to the budding artist is the fact that it is suitable for many types of drawing.

You can draw rough outline sketches, or you can do a complete rendering of a subject.

You can draw fine lines (when the tip is sharp), or you can use it almost like a brush when the tip is blunt (or sharpened like a chisel).

You can draw light strokes and bold strokes. You can grade your shading from very light to very dark.

It gives you great freedom to correct or erase at any time during your work in progress.

It allows rapid manipulation when you need to work quickly (Like when you do a portrait on the go). And you can use it to sketch studies for painting with other media.

And that's only about black pencils. The range of possibilities is larger when you consider using colour pencils. Nowadays there is a wide variety of color pencils, ranging from watercolor pencils, to metalic colors.

And if combine that with the vast range of paper textures available in art supplies shop, your mind will be blown away with the type of things you can do with this excellent drawing tool.

I apologize for getting so excited about pencils! They're just so... versatile and convenient drawing tools, and I believe they deserve an honourable place in an artist's box.

Pencils are great drawing training tools. Think about it: if you draw with a fine line, you're practically training to draw with pen and ink; and if you draw with broad line shading, you're getting skills you can use with charcoal, crayons or brushes. And if you force yourself to observe whatever you are about to draw, you will develop a sense of shapes, proportions and lighting, as well as the power to visualize.

Many art students try to learn to paint with water colours, oils, acrylics and other media, but pass learning how to draw with pencil. They do this to their detriment. I reckon they miss out on a wide range of drawing and painting skills.

So, next time you have a free moment, try sketching with a pencil. Sketch pictures, objects, people, or whatever you see through the window.

A Review Of Artist Supplies

Writen by Morgan Hamilton

If you are an artist, you would realize that it is very important to find the right artist supplies for the project you intend to work on. If you do not have the proper tools, the artwork that you envision be in danger. So, when it comes to finding the right materials, how should you handle it?

There are several ways actually, beginning with what appears to be the most obvious. You can go to any artist supplies store in your area to find just about anything you may need for a project, but what happens if you live in a rural area, or if the artist supplies available in your area do not offer specifically what you are looking for you? Well then there's only one way to go, and that is the World Wide Web. The Internet is a great source for different artist supplies.

You should be able to find just about any kind of supplies you could possibly ever need online and some at incredibly affordable prices. It gives you an opportunity to shop at outlet companies that may not be located in your area as well. Basically, it is a good way to save time and money. Of course is just as any other of your purchases be sure that the merchant you are dealing with is reputable.

When looking into artist supplies companies online, remember to make sure their website offers complete contact information along with other company information. There are unfortunately, some fly-by-night operations lurking on the Internet. If you have any doubts, or are unsure of a particular web site then be sure that you check with the Better Business Bureau online to make sure they are on the up and up too.

By taking the time to do this you can ensure a good business relationship when it comes to purchasing the artist supplies that you need, without the hassle of having to lose money or products with companies before you find one that will treat you right. After all the World Wide Web is basically a faceless entity and it is easy for dishonest people to take advantage of others.

That is why it is vital that you exercise caution and diligence before making your purchases. You certainly do not want to pay for artist supplies that you will never receive, and you do not want to pay for items that are shipped, but are not the right supplies or even close to the art supplies that you ordered. You can certainly save yourself plenty of headaches by being on the lookout for suspicious signs.

Artists are said to be much like athletes. Whenever an athlete finds the right piece of equipment they will be loyal to that for a long time. Artist supplies are no different. If the materials are good quality and give the desired results an artist will want to use the same brands over and over again, which is really no different than any other entity that any consumer finds themselves needing.

Morgan Hamilton offers expert advice and great tips regarding all aspects concerning arts. Get the information you are seeking now by visiting Artist Supplies.

Jeanmichel Basquiat A Short Biography

Writen by A. Wolf

I've never understood why, but the Arts & entertainment world have always felt a quite sinister fascination for the "died too young" artists. Perhaps the most famous case is James Dean in the cinema, but you'll surely know Kurt Cobain in the music world or Jack Kerouac in the literature. And, if you look to the contemporary painting, you'll find Jean-Michel Basquiat. Died at only 26, after a frenzy life highlighted with his ferocious graffiti art works, his multiple drug addictions and his problematic friendship with the also polemical Andy Warhol, Basquiat establishes himself not only as one of the most important artists of the second half of the past century, but also as a tragic icon of the contemporary Art world.

GRAFFITI AND GHETTO

Born on December 22, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York, Jean-Michel Basquiat grew up in the Brooklin streets, where he begins to create ferocious graffitis on subway trains of Lower Manhattan subways, signing them with the anagram SAMO©, which means "SAMe Old shit".

In 1980, when he was only 19 years old, Basquiat take part in the exhibition Times Square Show, and attracted the attention of both critics and specialized press. The following year, he exhibits in the P.S.1, where he achieved a great success, and he began his friendship with one of the most famous and controversial artistic personalities of that period, ANDY WARHOL. Warhol and Basquiat admired each other, and collaborated in almost a hundred works.

In 1983 Basquiat travelled to the Italian city of Modena, where he attended to his first individual exhibition. This hyped event was a extraordinary success, making him the most respected Afro-American painter. But this success had also a dark, negative side: Basquiat began an excessive drug use, which often makes him to stay in a paranoia state. On August 12th 1988, Basquiat was found dead of a drug overdose on his apartment. He was only 27 years old.

Stylistically, Basquiat's work is much harder to explain that a superficial analysis could make believe, and it was inspired by multiple references such as contemporary artists as Picasso, the jazz music, the African Art and culture, and perhaps the drug abuse.

In 2002, his work Profit I was auctioned at Christie's for more than $5,5 million. The work was painted in Italy in 1982, when Basquiat was only 21 years old.

THE GRAFFITI ARTISTS

Basquiat is, without doubt, the most important and well-known figure of the graffiti movement of the NY scene in the early 80s, but at least two other artists are worthy of being recognized here: KENNY SCHARF(born 1958) worked in Soho, where he exhibits in the Fun galleries (name given by Scharf himself) as the Civilian Warfare or the Gracie Manson. KEITH HARING (1958-1990) also worked in the Soho and East Village, but his style was even more ferocious, self-destructives than Scharf's works. Haring, arguably the most important artist of the grafitti movement, was also an accomplished figure outside the artistic world, participating in many campaigns against the HIV.

Other important artists of the graffiti movement were Mike Bildo, Tom Otterness or Rhonda Zwillinger.

Celebrity Bodyguards Need Discretion

Writen by Harlan Austin

So you want to be a celebrity bodyguard: do you have discretion?

One important skill that you need as a bodyguard is discretion. Discretion is the skill of keeping secrets and not disclosing information to people who should not know it. One difficulty to being a personal bodyguard is you have to treat your job as if you are in the CIA. You can never share any information with anyone. Never. Ever. You never know when it's going to come back and haunt you. So what I'm saying is learn how to keep your mouth shut.

As a celebrity bodyguard you hear and see a lot of things, and celebrities live a very interesting life. You are so close to someone and are around them all the time, so there is no room for modesty or having to correct oneself. The celebrity must be able to feel free enough to be themselves and confident it will not be a public issue.

The National Enquirer and other tabloids will pay you a lot of money for some of the secrets you'll know. But you'll never be able to work in this industry again if you say anything to anyone. Being discreet is perhaps the most important 'skill' required to be successful as a professional bodyguard. When you are dealing with anyone's life, especially one about whom the public is desperate to know, you always have to think before you speak, whether to family, friends, fans or reporters. I make it a point of NEVER asking a celebrity about his or her personal life. If and when the celebrity becomes comfortable with me, and we have built a relationship based on trust, he or she will often bring it up."

You may think something as harmless as giving your celebrity's home address to a company you're buying something from is nothing big. But who knows who's taking your order? It could be a crazed fan. So you have to have a secure mailing address to get packages.

Remember you are the buffer between the outside world and your celebrity. That means you have to learn how to fend off the press as well. Maybe you're setting up a party for your boss and some nice looking gal or guy wants to know where it's going to be. You have to keep that information from them at all costs. Get used to repeating yourself and saying, "He/she can't give an interview right now. Thanks for your interest." You'll get to know what you need to say, but basically, you're revealing nothing. That's the point.

Overall, what's expected is everything it takes to make the life of your celebrity easier, more comfortable, and the main thing SAFER, and that will vary according to with whom you're working. Anticipating needs is a big one— being able to look at a situation and determine what can go wrong and make sure it doesn't; or knowing how to fix a problem once it occurs (which requires you to familiarize yourself with all the players, their jobs, and who has the power to make the problem go away, quickly), which means you better have some terrific relationships in place. This, of course, takes time and experience."

Quick Tips For Successful Entertaining

Writen by Melissa Galt

The Guest List

Mix this up, singles and marrieds, age mix. We learn more from those beyond our generation. I typically have both clients now friends, vendors now friends, and friends.

Involve your guests. Give them a chance to bring something, be specific it makes it easier. For example, you can ask everyone to bring a favorite wine, or bubbly, or perhaps at the holidays they can bring an ornament. You can always do potluck and have everyone bring a dish. (Keep up with this or you'll wind up with too many chips and dips and no dessert or salad!)

You can do a game party and have everyone bring a favorite game, or a charitable donation and have everyone bring something for Goodwill. Everyone is more comfortable bringing something.

Be clear in expectations. Make the invitation clear with date, day, time, dress (give examples, this seems the biggest issue), occasion, what to bring, what to expect (a good time by all certainly), directions, parking and such. Don't leave room for questions, it will streamline the RSVP process and reason to attend.

The Menu and Presentation

Bite-size makes a difference. This is important, all of us have been stuck at a buffet with a plate in hand and food requiring a knife and fork, and no tables to set the plate down and carve. There is nothing more uncomfortable than popping an oversize bite in your mouth and being immobilized while attempting to reduce its size before swallowing.

Finger food makes it easier. Pasta with sauce is clearly not finger food. Make it easy on guests and have mini-kebobs, skewered or tooth picked items, stuffed mushroom caps (button mushrooms, not jumbo!) salmon on toast points and such. Food that doesn't require utensils is fun and simple.

Color is delicious. Make the food colorful, if not inherently so, then with garnish. Presentation matters and people eat color. All brown, even if a toasty color is boring, add green, red, and yellow with peppers, parsley (tried but true), herbs and spices, sliced veggies and fruits. If it looks appealing it will get eaten.

Tell them what it is. Rarely do I attend a party where anyone has taken the time to put signage on the food. This counts, not only does it remove the mystery but potential allergic reactions by unsuspecting party goers that don't know what is inside. This can be done tastefully with place cards or even small ceramic markers.

The Decorations and Mood

Start at the front door. I make sure that you know I am having a party from my front door to the back door. Whether it is signage, balloons, props, a special entry, my guests feel the mood at the beginning. It adds excitement and anticipation and gives them something to talk about.

Leave room for guests. It is easy to overdo and forget that you do need room for guests, not just party props and decorations. You also need to make room for glasses to be set down, plates to be parked and such. Put out coasters as a hint, and be sure that you have places they can leave empty plates.

Be creative but consistent. Sometimes it is tempting to throw in everything but the kitchen sink, don't. Consider using no more than three colors in any scheme and select one or two shapes to focus on. I do a lot with gold, silver and a third color each time, and use stars and diamonds as my preferred shapes. Repetition gives continuity and reinforces my theme. This works for holidays, Oscar night, a gambling affair, and more.

Give something away. I always like to leave a basket by the front door with a take away gift for my guests. This is my thank you for them being there. It can be as decadent as a mini-box of Godiva truffles or as silly as a bag of sand for a summer gathering with beach toys. It needs to relate to the event and be personal.

Real vs. Plastic. Well I have to say that for ease of party without full staff I go plastic on plates, but never on glasses. I don't mind a load or two of glassware at the end of the night, and plates and cutlery can be tossed. Others will disagree and insist on those glass plates so popular, too often they look scratched up, overused and dull. Go with real china and make if fun with a party set, if you don't want plastic.

Size counts. Please don't be stingy and use those silly 6" plates for food, give your guests a real 10" plate and avoid the need for standing around the buffet table grazing because they can't get enough on a plate to enjoy it. Use a separate plate for dessert items with fresh flatware.

The Art of Hosting

Get involved. If you don't have a good time, then neither will your guests. You will need to ensure that all of your preparations are complete and you have time to mix and mingle. They are coming to see you, not watch you work.

Get outside help for food. You can hire a caterer, go pot luck if on a tight budget, or split the difference and do it with help from Whole Foods and Eatzi's or any other gourmet prepared food source. Doing it all yourself is admirable, but not often feasible in time and effort.

Get outside help on service. Hire a bartender even if just to pour wine for the night. You can go pro or ask a neighborhood college student (of age of course). You may want to consider serving help too, or ask a couple of good friends to help you keep up with the food and empty plates.

Last Poems From The Coffee Cafe Three Poems

Writen by Dennis Siluk

Live on T.V. [The Rating War]

"Ratings went up last week," the fat, rich T.V. station manager said.

"Due to what coverage…?" asked my wife.

"It was a battle in Iraq (or was it Afghanistan?)

"I'm not sure but the enemy just killed one-hundred U.S. Marines: Blacks Jews Spanish Poor Whites!

"The analysis will now repeat the scenes (verbally) on the radio— cash in, while they can!...

Pale-Faced

It took a while, but the while was willing to wait; pale-faced one that never saw lightness—, lightness being something you give-off, radiate, and receive; but it never comes from a pale face,

either way. This maybe hard to believe, but for some it takes a lifetime to conceive.

Bitter Patience [At the Bookstore Café]

When the budget came to mind and her friend discussed it out loud with her—she delivered the verdict (after two-hours of hot clashes) a cool decision prevailed…

there are points to this high silence prier to her verdict (her friend tripping over her tongue, a cracking of her voice,

somewhat; the clock ticking) her friend now says (clears her throat, holds herself ready) says: "Guilty!

that is life."

"Not much leftover…;" says the bewildered. She forgets a bill of $34.00. (Woops, less now.)

Speaking in a soft voice, mingled with raw reality, she is spending more than she is acquiring (easy to do I say in my mind); she sees the circumstance, says,: "I got enough for some white rice…." They both get up from their chairs, leave the table, books here and there, "Bye," they say with a smile (each); leave with bitter patience.

Online Games The History Of Mmorpgs

Writen by Michael Russell

Although online games have achieved great heights of success in recent years, few people realize how long the genre had existed prior to this explosion of popularity. Often labeled MMORPGs, or "Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games", these online worlds have been around for nearly as long as the Internet itself. The purpose of this article is to explore the fascinating evolution of online games, from the dawn of their invention all the way up to the massive 3D landscapes of modern times.

The roots of online gaming can be traced to BBS, or "bulletin board system". These early versions of our modern forums were used to host all manner of discussions, or in the case of this article, to provide a central location for a group of online role-players. Games hosted on BBS often required that players adopt the guise of a character they'd created. During the course of various board postings, characters would interact back and forth, gradually developing the otherwise undefined storyline. BBS games live on even into the present, though the new generation of online gamers tend to find them too slow for their tastes.

Online gaming took a great leap forward in terms of interactivity with the advent of MUDs, or Multi-User Dungeon or Domain or Dimension (the final word in the acronym varies by opinion). MUDs retained the text-based aspect of BBS games, but added a level of automation that had not previously been known. Players could develop characters with Dungeons & Dragons-like statistics and band together to explore and slay monsters. More importantly, MUDs also allowed for players to interact with each other in real time. Gone were the delays of BBS postings, as players would only have encounters while logged in at the same time.

MUDs reigned supreme in online gaming for years, until the first incarnations of graphical MMORPGs arrived on the scene. These new games boasted primitive graphics which, even so, were appealing as something that had not previously been possible. A fair example of a game produced during this era would be Legends of Kesmai, a now-defunct graphical game wherein players adventured together in a world situated across a vast tile-based map. Interaction in real time was now the norm, rather than the latest thing and the sensations of community and quicker gratification helped these games to slowly overcome the popularity of their text-based predecessors.

The modern popularity of online gaming was initially sparked by EverQuest, the first commercial MMORPG to be set in a fully 3D-rendered environment. The amazing scope and classical fantasy theme of EverQuest launched its ratings beyond those of even Ultima Online, an already popular online game based upon the single-player Ultima titles. EverQuest dominated the online gaming market for years, with monthly subscription fees and numerous expansion packs bringing in unprecedented profits for the game's parent company, Sony Online Entertainment. EverQuest continues to prosper to this day, though it has fallen somewhat behind its competitors in recent years.

EverQuest's basic model can be seen in the majority of current online games. Although different artistic styles are employed, most games utilize the same system of running players through months (or often, years) worth of work, with their characters gradually increasing in power and prestige as a result of their continued efforts in the online world. The first modern MMORPG to diverge from this highly demanding path is said to be World of Warcraft. Set in the universe of the Warcraft games, WoW (as it is called by its players) markets itself to casual gamers by offering them quicker advancement for less time required. World of Warcraft has swiftly become the most popular MMORPG on the market and the first game to dethrone EverQuest from its place at the top of the market.

The Job

Writen by Ashton Brown

"You can't smoke back here." It was my boss. "No one ever comes back here, man, except you, and you only come back here to see if I'm smoking." I took a load of dishes out of the machine, set it on the rack, and loaded up another one. "If you just stop coming back here to check on me and assume everything's fine then we can both be happy." See, the bus boys slid their tubs of dirty dishes through a hole in the wall with a rack running through it, feeding the tubs to me. I slid empty tubs back through another slot and trays of clean dishes out through a third. No one but me ever had to come back here, and I tended to think of the space as mine. "It's a health code violation. You have to go out back on your break." He just stood there with his hands on his hips waiting for me to put it out. I took another drag before throwing it to the ground. No need to step on it, the floor was soaking wet. "All right," he said, triumphantly, "if I catch you smoking again you're fired." "Whatever." I said, but the water drowned the sound out as I began to rinse off more dirty dishes. As soon as he'd walked out, I lit another cigarette.

Of course I was fired before my shift was over that very night. I didn't mind so much. It'd been three weeks, the longest I'd kept a job in at least a year. Anyway, I didn't mind so much except for the food. I'd always managed to eat two big meals during my shifts, taking care of me for the day. As you can imagine, I didn't make a lot of money at a job like that, and what little I did have left over after bills I mostly saved for when I was looking for another job or I spent it on booze, so free meals were quite a bonus. Of course I was stealing them, and if I'd have been caught they'd have fired me, but I guess I didn't care too much about that. Actually, I stole a lot from that place. Plates, silverware, glasses, napkins, pretty much everything that wasn't nailed down. I didn't care too much; they had shitty, low paying jobs in jail, too. The food wasn't as good and I couldn't smoke or drink, so I tried to avoid it if I could. Really, I think, if they'd let me smoke and drink in jail, I wouldn't mind so much. You know, go for a score and if I get it I'm set, and if I don't I get a year or two's vacation. No big deal. When I get out my parole officer sets me up with another shitty job and I can start it all over again. Just look out for my sweet virgin ass for a while.

Anyway, I was out on the street later that night, walking around with some money in my pocket since the boss had paid me what he still owed me in cash because he was afraid I'd come back and steal everything. Maybe he wasn't so stupid after all. It was too late at night for the bus. I didn't really mind walking usually, but my left boot had a cracked sole and my sock was soaking wet from washing all those dishes. The wet foot wasn't so bad either, really, but I hated the squishing and squeaking sound that it made when I walked. Oh well, the old soppy sock. People could hear me coming, too. I felt like a cow with a bell. Maybe I could get that pretty girl across the street to milk me. I laughed out loud at this as I walked along. They probably all thought I was crazy. I probably looked homeless too, so it wasn't that much of a stretch.

Bio: William "Bill" Traponski (a.k.a. The Pole, Big Willie Diesel, The Jerk)

Bill was born in Pittsburgh in 1983 and, in his own words, "got the hell out of that steel cage as quick as my tiny feet would take me" (Bill, despite his 6'1" body, has tiny hands and feet). Bill's family had worked in the steel industry since arriving in the U.S. some hundred years ago. Bill's father was laid off in the late seventies and was unable to find work until he died in 1986. He cursed the industry until the end and made Bill swear that he would never throw his life away on a company that would never care about him. Bill hit the road at fifteen and never looked back. He has never had what most people would consider a "real" job.

I first met Bill in San Francisco two years ago at an open mike poetry night in a coffee house. He was being arrested for exposing himself on stage (in reality, he was actually masturbating, and, it being San Francisco, they waited to arrest him until he had come). Since then, I have kept in touch with him via the Internet and he has conti

Interview For Quotimpact With Intentquot Author Jack H Jones

Writen by Juanita Watson

We would like to welcome Jack H. Jones, author of "Impact with Intent." This certainly is a novel with a purpose! – Thank you for talking with Reader Views today Jack.

Juanita: "Impact with Intent" is a fictional novel with a clear message. Please tell us the plot of your book.

Jack: Basically, it's a story about a very bright young man, a scientist, who has a driving curiosity about how things work and the truth behind why things in the world are as they are. He comes to believe that pretty much everything is traceable to human actions and fundamentally to the way humans make decisions. As a result, he studies, then develops a mathematical model of the human decision-making process. He calls it his "Intent Theory" because all of our actions start with the "intent" to do something.

Most of the book is about his efforts to prove that his theory is correct by using it to predict future events that will result from current decisions. In the mean time life happens, and he deals with a variety of situations and relationships while he pursues his goal. Many of his challenges don't have anything to do with his talents or goals, but rather the day to day grind of meeting personal needs dealing with the world around him.

Juanita: What is meant by the statement "impact with intent?"

Jack: I must confess, Juanita, that I owe the invention of this title to my wife, Ilene. It means two things: (1) The impact on the world we live in as a result of the creation of a theory of human intent so accurate it can actually predict future events; and (2) John Thomas' intent to have an impact on the world around him. From volunteering to support the HOPE Food Pantry and Free Clinic to assignments that take him to Russia he wants to deliver a positive impact with his work and with the relationships he establishes.

Juanita: This really is a purpose driven novel. Now, the equation goes – Human Intent – Leads to – Action Decision – Modified by – Influencing Factors – Equals – Action Results. Is this a Jack Jones original and if so, how did you develop this "intent theory?"

Jack: It could be a Jack Jones original in that I do believe that what has happened to mankind throughout history and the current situation throughout the world is largely traceable to what people do and have done. If this is true, that means our future and our children's future will be directly the result of what we are doing now. Basically the equation does represent the logical steps we go through before we take an action. Also, it says we are what we actually do. What we intend to do only starts the process.

Juanita: That really speaks clearly of the importance of accountability and responsibility. Speaking of the turbulent situations we are finding in the world today, why do you think we have seem to have lost the connection between intentions, actions and results?

Jack: I think it's those devilish "Influencing factors" that keep our good (or sometimes bad) intentions from becoming what we want to achieve as action results. That, of course, can range from greed, revenge, physical rewards and penalties, to the human desire and need to be useful and helpful. In my opinion the key challenge for someone who has good intentions is the absence or difficulty in finding the "truth" on which to base your "action decision."

In our data-rich and information-poor world, "fact" from the highest positions in government, in business, in education, even among writers is twisted and manipulated so that it is very difficult to get a correct understanding of a situation we want to act upon. Voting in a national election is a simple example of this. I'm just now reading a book entitled, "Lies My Teacher Told Me," by James W. Loewen. I'm finding out that even Thanksgiving isn't the way I was taught. When we find out that our Government can't get the truth and we go to war based on false information, we have to hope that John Thomas, or someone, will soon determine a way to test for truthfulness or at least identify false intention.

Juanita: Jack, what are the gifts the lead character, John Thomas, has to share with the world?

Jack: John Thomas was born with exceptional intelligence, a driving curiosity to understand the true nature of things and a belief that there is right and wrong – a moral dimension to human behavior that doesn't exist with any other life form we know. He wants to use these abilities to further understanding about why people do what they do and why we don't do better.

Juanita: How does he use these gifts to achieve his life goals?

Jack: Well, his intelligence allows understanding, the ability to grapple with complexity and to reduce data to fact. He speaks five languages, not just as an amusement but rather as a means of expanding his world to include alternative cultures and the knowledge available from those cultures. This allows him to penetrate people and their environments to get at the real reasons, the rules, behind why things are as they are and what can be expected in the future. It allows him to see through the surface explanations and false facades that are accepted by others. He sees things other don't notice.

The fuel for this unrelenting need for understanding is his driving curiosity and thirst for knowledge. It provides energy and purpose behind what he wants to accomplish. It keeps him unsatisfied with where he is versus where he wants to go. That coupled with a true belief that humans are different, that they are special in the universe, makes him want to be empathetic and understanding with others and their situations. He wants to be fair in his relationships. The result makes him aggressive in pursuing his goal but recognize in his heart that we have to answer for misdeeds and bad behavior.

Juanita: Jack, what message would you like to convey through your book "Impact with Intent?"

Jack: I appreciate that question, Juanita. I'm always afraid that it won't come through by just reading the book. Perhaps that is a lack of confidence on the part of a new author. Of course, I want it to be an interesting enjoyable read for the people who like a suspenseful story, realizing it has a definite technical orientation that may keep it from being "easy." But, I believe every person, book, film, video game, etc. exhibits a behavior. That behavior influences those that are exposed to it. I want my book, through its characters and the way they react in different situations, to set a good example of how people should be. That doesn't mean they don't make mistakes and do things we shouldn't do. It does mean that if that happens they should come to regret it and be sorry for any harm to others. It does mean that there is a right and a wrong whether or not you are caught in the act.

Juanita: Is there any of you in the character of John Thomas?

Jack: That is a question my daughter, Lynn, has asked me, "Is this you saying that or is it John Thomas?" He certainly has abilities I would like to have such as his knowledge, the ability to speak five languages, his talent for seeing things and truths others don't notice. He does things I can't do, and in some cases wouldn't do, but I must say his sense of values and beliefs are pretty much like mine. He does want to be a good example of a human being for his family and for others; so do I.

Juanita: You have had a thirty-eight year career in Information Systems and Computers, with writing being limited to technology reports and articles for industry journals. What inspired you to write a full fledged novel at this time?

Jack: Doing anything significant I guess takes desire and opportunity. Throughout my career I've liked reading and liked writing as well. I like science fiction, the old stuff like Jules Verne or not so old like Isaac Asimov. I do like Harry Potter. J. K. Rowling is my champion for what she has accomplished both for herself and the reading public. So I wanted to try and write a novel similar to the ones I've like to read. I also wanted to see if I could persevere all the way through to the end. It was a goal I set maybe ten years ago. The opportunity came after I retired from industry and had the time and freedom of choice to do it. It's been a three year effort so far. I'm finding out ways to improve what I have so I still consider it a work in process.

Juanita: With your deep history in the computer field, you tie into "Impact with Intent" the possibility of computers being able to predict human behavior and future events. This is a very interesting hypothesis. Give us a little of your insights, and what is the likelihood of this?

Jack: That's a pretty philosophical question, Juanita, but maybe not as much as one would think. Certainly, we would all hate to see a world like Fritz Lang's 1927 movie, Metropolis, where we are very predictable automatons marching off to work the same menial job for most of our life. Indeed, there are many people in poverty situations throughout the world who live lives so limited that their behavior could be predicted with an old Apple II computer. The opposite of this is humans being aware of the truth about their potential and the amazing diversity of capability that resides in every person.

That starts with what we are taught. If we are taught to be subservient or limited, as many classes of people have been over the centuries, then we will be predictable to the point where, like the weather, supercomputers will in general be able to predict how populations will behave and therefore how they can be controlled. If we are taught to have a curiosity, like John Thomas, about how things work and the truth about why things are the way they are, then we'll always be able to free our imaginations and creativity to break through tradition and routine to do new, unpredictable things. A computer would predict the future by extrapolating from the present. The first information it would need is the

truth about the current situation. Think of the impact on our legal system, and way of life, if a computer could assure that any subject of an interrogation delivered nothing but the truth.

Juanita: Who have been your influences along the way?

Jack: Well, I mentioned three of my favorite authors. I like adventure or historical fiction such as John Jakes stuff or more modern stories like Grisham and Clancy. I have enjoyed many of the classics as well. I've been blessed with pretty broad interests which started with reading Zane Gray books on my grandfather's farm when I was a kid. All these people made reading, and, as a result writing, an adventure of pleasure for me. My parents and family have always been pro-education as well as pro-do-the-right-thing oriented. The "golden rule" statement by my uncle on the book back cover is obviously not an accident.

Juanita: What do you do to keep yourself inspired and 'in action'?

Jack: This is an interesting question, Juanita. Thinking about it, I don't believe I do anything specific to get inspired or energized. I do enjoy reading a good story. That is always inspiring. I do have some of John Thomas' curiosity, and interest in knowing the true reasons behind what happens in the world. That is sometimes more discouraging than energizing as it often comes out be "follow the money" or "what's in it for me." I'm fortunate to have a wife, Ilene, who is a true partner in what I do and is different enough from me that she is often pushing me out of my comfort zone. Success of course is the great motivator. We have had an important victory in getting the book published. The next step is now that we have the book, what have we got and where can we go with it.

Juanita: Well Jack, congratulations getting this far with "Impact with Intent." You have written a thought-provoking adventure which will undoubtedly catch the attention of your readers. We wish you all the best and continued success. Please let your readers know how they can get in touch with you and find out more about your endeavors.

Jack: More information about the book is available at www.impactstories.com I can be reached via email at Impactstories@aol.com.

Juanita: Thank you Jack, any final thoughts you'd like to share with your readers?

Jack: One thing I think all writers want for their readers is that they are entertained by the book and encouraged to read more. On top of that I do hope that they get a message, by example, from the book that makes them better, or smarter, or more informed, or at least more thoughtful than they were before they read it.

The Comforts Of An Adjustable Bed

Writen by Keith George

An adjustable bed is a bed that can be adjusted to a number of different positions. Adjustable beds are also called as Semi-fowler beds. These beds are similar to the beds seen in hospitals. The bed can be adjusted to various positions to suit the requirements of the user. People, who have medical conditions (usually spine problems) which require them to sleep in certain positions, use the adjustable beds to sleep more comfortably. Some people use the bed just to have a comfortable sleep. Adjustable beds relieve the strain on certain parts of the body and provide proper spinal alignment.

Adjustable beds can be altered into a comfortable position as per requirements of the sleeper. They are also very comfortable for reading or for watching TV in bed. The beds are also ideal for people who have bad sleeping problems due to stress, body strain or other body discomforts. The main benefit of the adjustable bed is that it can be molded according to the person´s body structure and it provides utmost comfort and relaxation. The beds are especially helpful for people who suffer from back problems.

Sleeping on an adjustable bed with a slight incline of 30 to 45 degrees may be very comfortable with the upper body positioned higher up than the lower body and some support under the knees to bend the knees at a slight angle. The combination of upper body incline and knee support helps take out stress off the lower back. This incline position can support the curves of the spine and back and it relieves the pressure on the entire body. Adjustable beds are very popular in hospitals and they are being widely used at homes because of its benefits.

Adjustable beds are available in two styles: standard or heavy-duty and they are made up of two components, one is base and the other is mattress. The mattresses are specially designed for adjustable beds to suit the human body structure and are more wear and tear resistant. There are beds that also are provided with adjustable rails on both sides.

Benefits of Adjustable Beds

The bed provide several health benefits and it ease back pain and swelling of the legs. The adjustable beds also relieve soreness of the body and sooth shoulder tension. They are used to provide relief to the neck, spine and knees. Adjustable beds are useful for people who suffer from the spondylolisthesis, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, asthma, phlebitis, varicose veins, and neck pain.

Where It Began The Circle Of Refiam Act Ii Scene 2 Amp 3 Quotsecret Of The Beastquot

Writen by Dennis Siluk

Act II

Scene 2

Secret of the Beast: "Even if you win, you lose"

[2016 AD]

Advance: The World: it had come the last days; dramatic prophetic events were about to happen to earth. Israel was about to come under fire from an Army from the North [Russia]; An Arab Confederacy developed; Egypt was very much involved with this new order. Conquests, the Antichrist was near by. Oil and Gold were running wild at the stock market. A Superpower bends Egypt's knees. … Massive starvation was now taking place, and the United Nations could do nothing about it. Inflation hit the world under satanic influence, like an earthquake, skyrocketing inflation, and food riots and chaos; there was much international strife. Cataclysmic pole shifts were taking place, as the earth tumbles about, its crust slips a bit, trying to for an alignment. And on the Radio, and TV, the world leader speak:)

World Leader: Ye, this among gentiles, prepare for war, we will wake up to the mighty men of the world for it is time for our war, let them come up: beat your plowshares into swords…come, one and all, gather yourselves with me, come to the Valley Jeshoshaphat.

(And they came with alcohol, drugs and swords, and guns, and every thing possible, and the world saw much epidemic, and this was happening, while at the Circle of Refiam, much foolishness going on)

Azaz'el (to Horrep and Noge): men fall her beauty, and demons try to understand it, but they both glory under her flesh, and want more of it.

Roe: There are no laws with us pertaining to humans, never have been, but Noge makes rules for us like humans.

Noge: First tell how thou com'tst to find this woman called Agdo, who is she?

Horrep: She come to me, not I to her.

Noge: Tell me with no more ado!

Horrep: I was on Mt. Hermon, waiting for a sign, waiting for you, it was cold, the night vast, and stars over my head, I felt odd, it was 5000-years since I had been back here. I felt sounds of drums, it broke my silence, and deep thinking, and they sank into my being, as if they were pulling the cords of my heart, several harlots appeared and they got my attention, I cold hear their deep breathing, I cold see her deep lips, voiceless, she called me to her, Agdo. Then all of a sudden she was standing next to me, and her friends had gone; it was my silent wish to have her, she read my mind, and I knew you would want her, your first flesh, and from a beautiful woman.

Noge: You sure it was she?

Horrep: That one (pointing his finger at Agdo; I know it was herm my hands were on her breasts.

Noge: Yes! Then what? Did she speak? What did she say?

Horrep: Aye, what? This was her mystery, she didn't need to, a gleam, a look, an echo in my mind, and she was all of this. I think it is God's silence in her (the Jews magic); she can take enormous pain, she made love to me. The girl is not dumb, she just does not tell her secrets.

Noge: She is the most loveliest and strange of all things, more beautiful than day and night.

Azaz'el: See her, she looks so placid, she looks for the end of us, destruction.

(Vii is now walking, moving slowly towards her)

Noge: I told him to leave her alone!

Azaz'el: We have other business to attend to; she has taken enough of our time. We must enter the gates of Jerusalem soon, and into the Valley for the battle. I know not why he fools with this hussy. She walks and makes no sound. She smiles and music comes from her. All things come for a reason.

(All the giants, demon, angelic renegades are looking at the woman, her eyes now cast down, all pause to look, to think, silently: who is she)

(Vii has stopped, he seems to be frozen, no one knows why, she has lifted her head a ting, and her eyes see Vii that is all)

Semyaz: I remember once, a beautiful silver strange angelic being by the name of Ura'el came down to earth when we were cohabitating with the humans, God sent him, and he buried many of us for 5000-years, some of us here, others got away, but now we are all back, Beware now how thou dost see her, use her, lest you end up under stones like we were…!

Azaz'el: That is for her to prove, who she is.

(Now Azaz'el started walking towards her, he has had enough of the parade of events she has created ((angrily))

(Azaz'el is now standing by Vii, takes a hard blow to his head, wakes him up form a spell, or something)

Azaz'el: Stay with me (he tells Vii and they both walk horridly to her). Her spirit and flesh ae not of time, sh has come form a different time then this, I know that, not sure why, or how, but I seem to have good second sight today, unless she is communicating something to my mind silently.

(Now they are in front of her, and he goes to grab her, and as the slightest touch sudden wings come to defend her, out of her back, above her should, below her waist, from her things. The sting, have thorns on them, they torment with their stings, and both Vii and Azaz'el' step back))

Vii (stuttering): she has immortality.

Azaz'el: I will part those legs and those lips and rip her apart (now you see the gazing of lions in her eyes, and Azaz'el is unsure of what to do)

Act II

Scene 3

Agaliarept: the Henchman of Hell

(Agaliarept, has now appeared at the site called: the Circle of Refiam. And he calls to Azaz'el, he knows who she is)

Agaliarept: I am, the General of a legend of demon in hell, and I am Lucifer's right hand man there: the Henchman of Hell they call me. I know who this woman is, Lucifer has sent me, he hears the chaos she is causing here, he is the king, the god of the air you know, and has sent me to explain. She is the daughter of Shamhat, the temple priestess of old Sumerian Uruk; dating back perhaps to 2700 BC, if not longer; the time of Gilgamish. She was the prostitute of Enkidu. Leave her daughter to her own, she is harmless, and only your distraction, Agdo's penitence is this: you are her penitence.

(White doves appear and fly over her head, silver fire comes from her mouth, her breasts are not covered, and other parts of her body covered by wings. Azaz'el is angry, and tries to get closer to her, to harm her, and Agaliarept shakes his head, he didn't seem to listen to him, and time is of the essence. As Azaz'el tries to touch her again, she turns into a scarlet butterfly. And is gone.

Semyaz: Yea! The northern armies have come now to overthrow Jerusalem, I have heard them fighting, and we were to join the battle (Azaz'el looking for the butterfly)) Semyaz speaking to everyone but Azaz'el))

Horrep: This was a trick to lure me into lust, and then my son, who is innocent of such feelings, and now the battle of Jerusalem is lost because of us, I fear, over a harlot. She is the witch of God, of Israel.

Noge: Father, she is just a gir?

Horrep: Of course, what else, if Lucifer finds out we are condemned to his wickedness likened to the dogs of hell? She brought this doom upon us; Russia has attacked Israel, and a nuclear attack has taken place, Russia has lost many men (telepathically)
